- Compare demanding journeys on real devices.
- Shared code still has platform-specific constraints.
- Plan for network failures, updates and inference costs.
A choice tied to the product
React Native 0.87, announced on 11 August 2026, updates areas including TypeScript interfaces and the toolchain. This is a reminder that framework selection includes a maintenance path. Examine dependencies and available skills beyond the first prototype.
React Native can be a relevant candidate when a product targets iOS and Android with largely shared journeys and a team familiar with React. The decision should still start with demanding features: camera, documents, notifications, real-time work or hardware integration. A focused trial verifies feasibility before broader commitment.
Test the journey that could invalidate the choice
Select an ordinary screen and a difficult interaction. For example: photograph a document, upload it, track analysis and check the result. Measure perceived responsiveness, readability, resource use and differences between devices.
Use at least one representative device per platform and a degraded network. Simulators assist development but do not reproduce every hardware constraint. Document required native libraries and their maintenance state. This technical evidence also supports a more realistic project estimate.
Place AI in the right part of the system
Calls to a model service should use an architecture that protects secrets and controls permissions, volumes and costs. Do not put a private key in the distributed application. Show processing state and let users resume work without starting duplicate tasks.
If local processing is considered, verify size, performance and hardware constraints on target devices. An offline requirement can change functional scope. Explain what remains available without connectivity and what must wait for synchronisation.
Prepare operations from the MVP
Include supported OS versions, pre-release checks, error monitoring and support contact. Store rules and used features should be rechecked at release time. Plan compatibility between an already-installed application and an updated API.
The discovery deliverable should contain a reasoned choice, its limits and remaining trials. Shared code can support consistency; it does not remove iOS and Android acceptance work or maintenance. Include these in total cost.
